Biography

Wasiq Abass is Associate Professor and Associate Dean at Jindal Global Law School. He is also Associate Director of JGLS Centre for Post Graduate Legal Studies (CPGLS) and a member of the Law School’s Doctoral Committee. He teaches courses on International Commercial Arbitration, International Investment Law and Investment Arbitration, and Contract Law to undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Dr. Wasiq holds an S.J.D. (PhD in Law) in International Business Law from Central European University. He was awarded ‘Full CEU Doctoral Scholarship’ by the Central European University Foundation of Budapest. His doctoral research focused on issues related to International Commercial Arbitration. He holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in International Law from South Asian University, India and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Pune, India. 

Previously, as a Global Teaching Fellow of Central European University, he introduced courses on International Commercial Arbitration and International Investment Law and Investment Arbitration at the University of Yangon, Myanmar. He has been invited as Berger and Clarke Visiting Research Scholar at the Cornell Law School, Cornell University, New York, followed by an invitation to attend the Dickson Poon School of Law at the King’s College London as a Visiting Researcher.    

He has practiced law before various courts and tribunals in Delhi and Jammu & Kashmir. Wasiq has also assisted several Arbitral Tribunals, engaged in high stake arbitrations in India, in the capacity of Tribunal Secretary and Arbitration Associate.   

Dr. Wasiq has published in international journals and has contributed chapters in several edited volumes published by internationally reputed publishing houses. The research areas that interest him include International Commercial Arbitration, International Investment Law, Investment Arbitration, Commercial Mediation, Private International Law, and certain areas of Public International Law.

Awarded merit based scholarship (5000 USD) by the Central European University Foundation of Budapest to conduct research at Cornell University Law School, New York, from October 2017 – December 2017.

Awarded merit based scholarship (7790 USD) by the Central European University Foundation of Budapest to conduct research and teach at the Department of Law, University of Yangon, Myanmar, under the Global Teaching Fellowship Program, from June 2017 – September 2017.

Awarded research grant (2890 USD) by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences to conduct research for a project on ‘Using and Abusing Public Interest against Free Competition – Comparative Analysis of Federal Markets’, from January 2017 – August 2017.
