Biography

Dalia Bhattacharjee received her BA in Political Science from Cotton College and an MA in Development Studies from Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. She earned her PhD from Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Mohali, where her doctoral research examined the lived experiences of women working as surrogate mothers in India’s commercial surrogacy industry through ethnographic inquiry. Grounded in feminist scholarship, her work explores reproductive labor, embodiment, and the everyday realities of women whose bodies are situated within reproductive economies.

A recipient of the Fulbright-Nehru Postdoctoral Fellowship, Dalia Bhattacharjee conducted postdoctoral research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill between 2021 and 2023. Her current research engages with feminist and reproductive geographies, focusing on questions of embodiment, emotion, affect, and the spatial politics of reproduction.
