Biography

Shireen Moti is an internationally recognised legal academician, author, and an access to justice scholar. She is an Associate Professor of Constitutional Law at the Jindal Global Law School, O.P. Jindal Global University, where she teaches courses on Constitutional Law and Comparative Public Law. She has been recognised for her academic leadership in institutions of higher education, in her capacity as a director of a university wide office, as an Associate Dean for special initiatives, and as an Assistant Dean for systems and processes. 

Her scholarly interests encompass access to justice, law and technology, socio economic rights, transnational feminism, legal education, and clinical legal education. She has published 10 journal articles and book chapters in leading SCOPUS indexed international peer-reviewed journals and books, including the Liverpool Law Journal, the Law Teacher Journal, the Indonesian Journal of International and Comparative Law, Asian Journal of Legal Education, and the Jindal Global Law Review. 

As a socio-legal and empirical researcher, she has been a visiting scholar in Institutions such as Cornell University and Monash University. She has been invited to present her work at global universities, such as the National University of Singapore, Monash University, Queen Mary University of London, Lazarski University, and Stellenbosch University. These opportunities have allowed her to collaborate with international academicians and to develop her research interests. 

Her academic journey includes a B.A.,LL.B. (Hons) degree from Jindal Global Law School, O.P. Jindal Global University, a Masters in Law  (LLM) degree from Queen Mary University of London, and a doctoral degree from Monash University (pursuing). Her doctoral work is on ‘Artificially Intelligent Justice for Undertrial Prisoners in India’. She has been a recipient of several scholarships, including the Merit Scholarship at O.P. Jindal Global University, the British Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office’s (FCDOs) Chevening Scholarship (100% scholarship) at Queen Mary University of London, and the Doctoral scholarship at Monash University. She was awarded the Human Rights Fellowship and the Jagdish Bhagwati Fellowship by Columbia University (received, not availed) to pursue her LLM degree. 

She is the winner of the ‘Women of the Future: 50 Rising Stars in ESG’ International award by Women of the Future U.K., the Queen Mary University of London Centre for Commercial Legal Studies Alumni Achievers Award, and the Jindal Global Law School’s Distinguished Alumni Award. She participated in the inaugural cohort of the ‘Women in Political Leadership’ programme by the Chevening Alumni Project Fund. As someone who has her roots in the Kashmir valley, she actively participates on national TV debates and is vocal about the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the valley. 

Before transitioning to academia, Professor Moti worked as a corporate and regulatory lawyer at an international law firm, Nishith Desai Associates.
