Dr. Amrita Roy possesses a diverse background, combining experience in the healthcare industry, academia, and research, which enables a multifaceted understanding and application of knowledge across health domains. She specializes in mental health and holds a Ph.D. in mental health rehabilitation from the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (Bengaluru, India), which was funded by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) junior and senior research fellowships. She won the J K Trivedi Award for her doctoral research paper at the National Conference of the Indian Association of Social Psychiatry in 2021. Her research interests comprise all domains of psychosocial rehabilitation (including rights and advocacy, education, livelihood, and social aspects of persons with mental health conditions), women's mental health, digital mental health, healthcare administration, inclusion in higher educational settings, policy and legislation in disability and mental health, and psychosocial aspects of aging.
Dr. Roy joined O. P. Jindal Global University as a faculty member in Jan 2023 and teaches various core and elective courses spanning mental health, psychosocial rehabilitation, and research. She also served as the founding program director for the ‘Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI)’ licensed course – ‘M.Sc. in Psychosocial Rehabilitation’ started in the academic year 2023-24, offered by the Jindal Institute of Behavioral Sciences. At the university level, she served on the ‘Disability Support Committee’ and held various roles, including representative, member, and member-secretary, and contributed to facilitating student inclusion and shaping the University’s inclusion policy.
Dr. Roy is also proactively involved in conducting various community-based programs, including mental health awareness campaigns in schools, colleges, Anganwadi centers, and NGOs. She has also conducted training programs in collaboration with various government departments in Haryana, including the Women and Child Department (WCD), the Social Justice, Empowerment, Welfare, and Antodaya (SEWA) Department, and the State Institute of Health and Family Welfare (SIHFW).
